It is one of the present tenses used in English in addition to the present continuous. It is used to talk about things, daily habits or activities that are usually done every day and are always true.
Normally in the present tense we add S to the end of the verb in the 3rd person (He, She, It).
- He speaks Spanish
- She drinks orange juice
- My dog (it) loves to run
Irregular verbs in third person in the present tense follow very simple rules. The only change that is made to these verbs is in the third
person – for He, She or It.
If the verb ends in SS, X, CH, SH or the letter O, we add ES in the third person
- He kisses his girlfriend
- The mechanic fixes the car
- She goes to the mall
If the verb ends in a Consonant + Y, we remove the Y and add IES in the third person
- She studies medicine
- He carries the baby
